The Velvet Underground File Lawsuit Over Iconic Banana Symbol

The Velvet Underground, le groupe formé en 1965 par Lou Reed et John Cale, intente un procès à la fondation Andy Warhol pour avoir autorisé Apple à utiliser le design de la pochette du premier album du groupe, qui s’intitule The Velvet Underground and Nico.

Cependant, le fait est que le design de cet album, sorti en 1967 et en parti produit par l’artiste Andy Warhol, n’a jamais officiellement fait l’objet d’un copyright, bien que la banane soit devenu un véritable symbole du groupe.

De ce procès, The Velvet Underground espère obtenir une déclaration affirmant que la fondation ne reçoit aucun intérêt dans l’utilisation du design, des dommages non spécifiés et une part des bénéfices que la Fondation Andy Warhol recevrait de tous accords de licence.

The Velvet Underground, the band created in 1965 by Lou Reed and John Cale, has taken the Andy Warhol Foundation to court for allowing Apple to use the design from the cover of the band’s first album, entitled The Velvet Underground and Nico.

However, the fact is that, although the banana has become a real symbol of the band, the design of this album, released in 1967 and produced by the artist Andy Warhol, has never officially been copyrighted.

With this lawsuit, The Velvet Underground hopes to get a declaration stating that the Foundation receives no copyright interest in the use of the design, unspecified damages and a share of the profits that the Andy Warhol Foundation would receive from all license agreements
